Happy New Years Eve!
Have you ever heard "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it?"
Last year, high on my list was for a wonder-filled new year or better.
Now, I’m not complaining at all, but trust me, what I’m doing right now was not on my 2011 resolutions list!
Yet, it certainly brings home what a friend told me to add at the end of all my resolutions —
Always add the phrase "or better."
If you had asked me New Years Eve 2010 where I’d be on New Years Eve next year I would never have told you that I’d be writing you a special New Year note from a 2011 computer sitting at an 1830s desk in a 1740 Chateau in the north of France looking out on the Seine River — where last night around the hearth I heard stories of raiding Norsemen during 885-886 and William the Conqueror from 1066. It amazed me that families here trace their roots that far back on this same land. I know, that is very American of me to be amazed by that….
Exploring the depths and crevices of this place is so special. There is something new (well, really really old) at every turn. Hidden passages, servant stairways, doors deliciously worn all heavy with a fabulous creak, hand-forged locks, stone steps sloping forward from years of wear, the gardens all prim and proper even in the dead of winter… you see the telltale signs of years of the latest modern conveniences being added to this house… a hand-cranked rotisserie from the late 1700s, running water in the 1800s, electricity in the 1900s, internet in the 2000s…. thank goodness for electricity and internet!
What are your "or betters" for this year? Share them with me in the comments section below.
As past and present merge for me tonight, I wish you a wonder-filled, amazing 2012 and leave you with a favorite quote of mine from Ashleigh Brilliant "Nothing we can do can change the past, but everything we do changes the future."
Let Go of Regrets. Resolve to Get Results. Be Open to Opportunity. You never really know where life will take you.
À la prochaine
Enjoy the Adventure

Wow! You describe the Chateau so well – it almost feels like I’m there too…Ha ha.
Thank you for sharing and thank you for your wishes for a better year in 2012. I sure hope it will be adventurous for me…
Sometimes it seems to me that people around me could use a little happiness booster some now and then, but they obviously don’t want it. But I’ll never give up, because there must be someone out there… needing some encouragement and wanting to change their lives to the better… So – in 2012 I hope I can find a way to reach them. You said we should write our “or better’s”. Here’s mine: I wish I can make a difference in someone’s life by inspiring them to create the life they are longing for… or better.
