Can we just get rid of just…
Gosh the first week of November already, I just realized it’s been awhile since I dropped you a note, so many things are happening here at Impression Engineers, we’ve been working hard to create new and exciting stuff for all of you.
Just a little rant first:
Can we just get rid of just….
"Just" is just one of those words that just annoys me. It is just so misused these days. It’s just used way to often. I was just writing a quick email to someone today—as I was re-reading before sending I noticed I had unconsciously just added the word “just,” and it just hit me! How demeaning, no, just demeaning doesn’t quite describe it, condescending, well maybe not just condescending, patronizing maybe, well, really it is just so limiting.
The actual word "JUST" doesn’t mean any of those ways I just used it. As an adjective it means to be guided by truth, reason, justice, and fairness and as an adverb it can mean within a brief preceding time, by a narrow margin or exactly. So exactly why do we just misuse the word so often? As a communicator it is incumbent on us to speak what we mean, without qualifiers. Wouldn’t life just be so much simpler if we just vanquished about 90% of the times we use the word “just?”
Okay – whew – glad that is off my chest.

Is it forgetting or believing….
A friend sent me this, I enjoyed reading it. I wish I knew who wrote it, it did not come attributed and a quick google search did not turn up a consistent author, I wanted to share it anyhow…
It sent another wake-up message from the universe that has been a consistent theme in my life this last month. You might laugh and recognize the theme…. I suggest that it is not so much forgetting as it is believing in the first place… I’m posting this for all my friends and readers of this blog — Thank you for being you; I appreciate you in my life more than you will ever know.

One Flaw In Women
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don’t take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
However, if there is one flaw in women,

If only I could see a way… what are your blind spots?
So… let me replay a recent snip of a conversation…
Have you seen the marketing of ‘X’ company?” (That concept) looks like it could be adaptable and transferable to your market…”
“But, I don’t do what he does…”
“Yes, I know, it’s about ‘the how’ of the delivery not the ‘what,’ let’s look at the structure; it could be a way to speak with your market that is new and relevant.”
“I’m not resisting you, but as I said I don’t do what he does….”
Here’s the thing:
Let’s be honest, we all have “blind spots” – things that we do day in and day out without really thinking about how it could be done smarter, quicker, faster, better….
As the label “blind spots” suggests these are actions, behaviors and beliefs that are not working to get us what we say we want and yet we can’t (or won’t) see for our selves they are not working. Most of the time our blind spots are all to obvious to others – isn’t that the old saying – can’t see the forest for all the trees….
Do friends, family or co-workers mention or tease you about the same thing over and over… Example…. I have a dear friend, no matter how many latest loves she introduces me to, it’s the same man, different body (syndrome)…. I ask myself “So why is she expecting different results?”
Come on folks, let’s get over ourselves. What are those things we continue to do — day in and day out — because that is “how it is done.” Or what about the ones we refuse to see or don’t see? I think back to a couple of my own that I refused to see… my reply was “You just don’t understand.” Funny thing was friends understood all too well, if I had only entertained the notion that there was another way to look at it.
If you’re having the same problems and frustrations over and over in your business (or your love life) then what’s important is NOT the beliefs about the messed up economy or the competition, or there are no good men or women left….
What’s important is you getting to the bottom of YOUR PART in these situations that are keeping you from creating what you want! (hint: YOUR BLIND SPOTS.) STOP and really take a look at what isn’t working, than try something else.

Define your target market
Recently I was asked if I thought "Leaders who want to be more effective" was a good target market.
If you are just starting out the answer is no because—"Leaders that want to be more effective" is a good start yet spend some time and drill down further in two areas:
1. Define effective–it could be effective communicators, effective in HR, effective with time, in sales…
2. Narrow what types of leaders to start with. What is a business leader? Are you wanting C-LevelTop-Level Executive (CEO, CRO, CIO)? Or business leaders in the community, or….
You have to know where to find them… business leaders sometimes have associations and online forums, however it is better to go narrower than that, it could be sales leaders, church leadership, cpa leaders, boy scout leaders….
It is important to focus at first so you can narrow down where your target gathers in groups. As your reputation in your industry grows, the more you are seen as an expert in your field the easier it is to go larger, and be a bit vague…. (Be sure you know exactly your market though, do not be so vague you don’t know your target.)
How To Identify Your Most Profitable Ideas with Cara Lumen
HOW TO IDENTIFY YOUR MOST PROFITABLE IDEAS
1. Your idea has to be needed
2. You have to be passionate about them
3. You have to check out cost effectiveness, time effectiveness, profitability
ASK YOURSELF WHO NEEDS IT?
This is the most important clarifier you can choose. Ask yourself who needs this idea right now. Some of our ideas will be great fun to do but perhaps people don’t need them now – or ever.
4. Know your target audience. Know what changes have appeared in their lives. How have their needs changed? What are their most compelling desires?
5. Asking those questions alone will expand your list a hundred fold. Write those ideas down. Then circle the three ideas that seem to be the most needed.
6. Now identify the benefit in your offering. What’s in it for them? What will your product or service do for your target market? Write down the benefits they will receive for each of these ideas.
7. Then look for an emotion that your product will trigger. Emotion sells. Use that in information in your landing page copy. Will they feel relieved, more secure, will their body be more flexible, their relationship improved, their ability to succeed in their business enhanced? Make it about them and how they will change and what difference they will feel when they do. Before you consider bringing an idea to life see exactly where and how it will be of benefit to others.
DOES IT FORWARD YOUR BUSINESS?
Look over your business plan, your objectives for the quarter and see if this program or product will move you closer to your goal. Be sure the idea moves your business forward in the direction you have chosen to take it. Or, as an ever-creative entrepreneur, see if the idea takes you in a new, better, more appropriate direction and then follow that lead.
HOW PASSIONATE ARE YOU ABOUT THIS IDEA?
* Look For Spin Off’s of your idea For the moment you are considering three or four ideas. Let’s see how big we can make them. Think of your idea as an actor who can be in many plays and wear many costumes. One idea could be:
* A blog post
* A radio show
* A topic to interview others about
* An article or lots of articles. Every point in this radio show could be a separate article or blog post.
* An ebook
* A CD
* A teleclass
* Part of a bigger telecourse
* A home study course
* The topic for a live talk
* A mini-ecourse
* Think in terms of Bundle – Leverage – joint venture – see what other things you have created around the topic that can be combined. I have added my Transformational Visioning CD to several courses and it is a standalone product. I have created bundles of ebooks on creating different types of information products. As you discover an idea also list any spin offs that occur to you from that one idea.
* Make some choices – How easy is it? How much time do you have? You have now identified ideas that
* Are needed by your target audience
* Forward your business in the direction you want it to
* Rate high on your passion to do it
* Have the potential to become many things. Now let’s look at your time commitment.
* Do I have time to get this done, in this form in the best time line for making it successful?
* What’s the easiest form for this to take?
* What do you need to learn to do this idea?
* What could keep you from getting this done?
* What feels easiest to do?
Prioritize Your Idea List
Examined three ideas. Prioritize those three by asking yourself
* Why am choosing this particular idea? What excites you about doing this idea right now?
* What’s in it for me? What benefits will you get from following through on this idea?
* What’s in it for others? How will you be in service with this idea?
Choose the next idea you are willing to expand and develop. Keep Your List Active Here’s what we talked about
* How to keep track of your ideas
* Discovering who needs your idea
* Does your idea forward your business
* How passionate are you about this idea
* Look for spin-offs of your idea
* Make some choices – how easy is it – how much time do you have
